Introducing the next generation of Robotic Lab Assistants

Astech’s Robotic Lab Assistant (RLA) is the next generation of laboratory technology, bridging the gap between manual and automated processes through four core, dynamic configurations: RLA 1 Series - Manual Trolley RLA 2 Series - Mobile Robot RLA 3 Series - Linear Track RLA 4 Series - Flexible Workcell All of Astech’s AMRs are equipped to be highly flexible and efficient. The RLA is designed specifically to deploy advanced automation technology to collaboratively integrate into your workforce, taking on the repetitive tasks that slow down staff and exponentially expanding the capabilities of your lab by allowing employees to focus on more complex tasks.

The RLA in Action

Watch a day in the life of robotic lab assistants

Our video shows a day in the life of our robotic lab assistants, including the RLA 1 series manual trolley, RLA 2 series mobile robot, RLA 3 series linear track, and RLA 4 series flexible workcell. Watch the RLAs navigating the lab, independently opening doors, identifying objects from a distance, automatically changing tools, and even operating with precision 12 hours later with the lights out.

Why Choose RLA?

Features & Benefits

The RLA is fast to deploy and flexible to use in any working environment. The advanced functionality sets it apart from traditional collaborative robots on the market. Each unit can perform the standard functions such as picking, packing, and transporting. But they also come packed with advance tech that transforms your lab, including multi-axis motion, lights out operation, and CAD match vision.
  • Seamless integration and solid infrastructure

Astech’s RLAs are system integrable, and require no changes to existing systems or infrastructure to ensure minimal disruption to workflows at the time of deployment and beyond. Easily integrates with existing ERP, WMS, and workflow scheduling software, RLA equipment can be navigated with little to no changes to your facility. Smooth integration guaranteed, with no modifications to your current operations.

Types of RLA

4 Core Configurations

We have developed four core Robotic Lab Assistant configurations with unique, defined features: RLA 1 Series - Manual Trolley RLA 2 Series - Mobile Robot RLA 3 Series - Linear Track RLA 4 Series - Flexible Workcell Each can be altered and added to to suit your project requirements.

RLA 1 Series - Manual Trolley

Manual robot trolley’s greatly enhance the flexibility of laboratories and other workspaces, benefiting from easy manual mobility and simple plug-and-play functionality that allow it to be moved from room to room. A manual trolley configuration is ideal for simple workflows that involve pick and place tasks with a smaller number of devices or instruments.

  • Payload - 3kg/4 Axis // End Effector Options - Static

  • Automatic April Tag detection in the workspace, eliminating the need for re-teaching after moving the cart

  • 24/7 operation with a connected power supply, but battery operation is also possible, increasing flexibility for untethered use

  • Plug and play functionality for simple setup and immediate operation

  • Utilise compressed air and vacuum supplies for diverse applications

  • Interface directly with objects on a bench or operate as a standalone unit

RLA 2 Series - Mobile Robot

The Mobile Robot can be remotely controlled to traverse inclines and advanced obstacles, including confined spaces, ramps, elevators, doors, and gates. Capable of independent operation, the Mobile Robot can also be configured to work as part of a fleet.

  • Identify objects and overhead obstacles up to 1.4 metres high for safe operation with advanced 3D space navigation

  • Connect with other AMRs to create an adaptable and versatile workspace

  • Payload of 3kg/6 Axis // Pneumatic and Servo end effector options

  • Rugged terrain navigation allows the AMR to effortlessly traverse 5% inclines, carpets, bumps, and cable tidies

  • Wise I/O interface to remotely control doors, elevators, and more for seamless automation

  • Capable of avoiding static and moving obstacles

RLA 3 Series - Linear Track

The Linear Track RLA is a lab track system that allows safe and efficient worker, robot collaboration. This lab assistant robot is track-mounted, and has extensive working reach over extended platforms with track lengths up to 7 metres available. Able to quickly traverse over ±360°, and across linear motion axis’, linear robot tracks are a space-saving way to efficiently manage complex workflows that involve numerous devices in a compact space.

  • Payload - 5kg/6 Axis // End Effector Options - Manual Tool Change

  • Compact footprint for a space-saving design with highest workspace density

  • No localisation complexities mean enhanced movement reach without the complexities of an AMR

  • Supports the use of compressed air and vacuum supplies for diverse applications

  • Automatically detects April Tags, eliminating the need for re-teaching after repositioning

  • 24/7 operation, continuous performance with a connected power supply

RLA 4 Series - Flexible Workcell

The Flexible-cell RLA features a central robot integrated with a portable cart system for streamlined operations that can be adapted to your laboratories changing needs. The workcell integrates with a central control system for energy and communication connections, from which individual workspaces with instruments, storage, and PC equipment can be set up.

  • Payload - 10kg/6 Axis // End Effector Options - Automatic Tool Change

  • Flexible workflows can be configured with a varying numbers of devices and instruments. The workcell can be moved between rooms.

  • Automatic April Tag detection, removing the need for re-teaching after repositioning carts or equipment

  • 24/7 operation allows labs to achieve uninterrupted performance with a connected power supply

  • Supports the use of compressed air and vacuum supplies for diverse applications.

  • Rapid 360° motion means a single robot can quickly traverse ±360° for comprehensive coverage
